Does your work feel like an inconvenience?
Does your work ever feel like an inconvenience or a burden? If so, I get it.
Especially because work doesn’t just refer to what we get paid to do (though it certainly includes paid work). Work is cooking dinner, cleaning your apartment; it’s exercise and running errands. In other words, work is the stuff of everyday life. And, if I’m honest, there are some things on this list I like more than others!
Here’s an important reminder: Before the world was broken, there was work — good work.
In the beginning, God went to work. In fact, God working is one of the very first things we observe about Him in the Genesis creation narrative (see Genesis 1 and 2). He spoke light into darkness, created beauty out of chaos, and shaped life from dust. Then He made us in His image and invited us to join Him: to cultivate, care for, and contribute to His creation.
That means work isn’t a punishment to endure. It’s part of God’s original design.
Work done with God and for His glory was always meant to be good.
However your most productive waking hours are deployed, God has entrusted you with purpose.
Whether you lead a team, care for patients, teach students, run a household, or build something from the ground up, your daily work reflects the heart of a working God. Your work, whether it’s paid or unpaid, seen or unseen, matters because it mirrors the Creator who first went to work.
God created you to do good work, and He has good work for you to do.
This simple truth changes how we show up every day of the week. It reminds us that our calling isn’t just what we do but how we do it. We are invited to do all of our work with love, excellence, and purpose.
A few questions to consider:
What might change if you start each day remembering work is a good gift, and an invitation to partner with God in His work in the world?
Where do you see God at work in your work right now?
Your good work matters to God. I’m here to help you live and lead like it does.
Cheering you on,
Meredith
